Balvenie 12 Year Double Wood
A Double Wood edition from Balvenie and aged for 12 years, being transferred between traditional oak casks and first filled European oak sherry casks. It was a winner at the 2012 IWSC taking gold in the whiskey scotch category.
The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12-year-old single malt that gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Over the period of maturation, it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first-fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt ~ the traditional casks soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor.
On the nose, the Balvenie 12-year-old is sweet and fruity with Oloroso sherry notes and layers of honey and vanilla. The palate is smooth and mellow which beautifully combines flavors of nutty sweetness, cinnamon, spiciness, and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
